When using this website we recommend you have a recent
gas/electricity bill with you to refer to. This will help you
answer questions about how much gas/electricity you use and the
type of electricity meter you
have.
Click on the
buttons next to any field if you
want more information about that
field.
Step 1
- Choose whether you want to compare
electricity offers, gas offers or
both
- Enter the postcode of your street address
- Select whether you are a residential or
business customer.
For business customers, the comparator will only be relevant to
you if you use less than 160 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity
per year (annual bill of less than around $40,000), or less than 1
terajoule (TJ) of gas per year (annual bill of less than around
$20,000).
Step 2
- Once you enter your postcode, your 'regulated
supplier' will be displayed.
Electricity offers
If you selected 'electricity' in step 1
- Select the type of meter you have. If you
don't know click on the
button for
help with how to find out.
- Indicate whether you have off-peak hot water
which is separately metered by selecting 'yes' or 'no'. If you
don't know click on the
button for
help with how find out.
- If you are a business customer, you do not
need to enter any more information. Go straight to Step
3.
- If you are a residential customer
- Use the drop down menu to select how often you receive
an electricity bill (monthly, or
quarterly).
- If you have a recent bill enter your
consumption in kWh as shown on your bill.
Click on where
to find the information you need on your energy bill if you
can't find this information on your bill.
- If you have bills for the past 12 months
calculate your average quarterly electricity consumption and enter
this amount. Check you selected quarterly billing in the
field above.
- If you don't have any recent bills use the
drop down menu to select the approximate amount you typically spend
on each electricity bill.
Gas offers
If you selected 'gas' in step 1
- If you are a business customer, you generally
do not need to enter any more information. Go straight to
Step 3.
- If you are a residential customer
- Use the drop down menu to select how often you receive
a gas bill (monthly, bi-monthly or
quarterly).
- If you have a recent bill enter your
consumption in MJ as shown on your bill.
Click on where
to find the information you need on your energy bill if
you can't find this information on your bill.

calculate your average quarterly gas consumption and enter this
amount. Check you selected quarterly billing in the field
above.
- If you don't have any recent bills use the
drop down menu to select the approximate amount you typically spend
on each gas bill. The calculator will
estimate your electricity consumption in kWh based on your usual
spend, the length of your billing period and the regulated or
standard electricity tariff in your area.
Both electricity and gas offers
If you selected both electricity and gas in Step 1 you will need
to complete both the electricity and gas sections of the query
page. Follow the instructions listed above for electricity
and then for gas.

terms and conditions can be accessed by clicking on the 'terms and
conditions' hyperlink or the tab at the bottom of the page.

terms and conditions.

Understanding the results page
The first offer displayed will be the regulated
offer that is available from your Standard Retailer to all
customers in your area who have not signed a market contract.
Click on the
button next
to this heading for more information about regulated
offers.
The next offers displayed will be the market
offers relevant to you. Click on the
button next to this heading for
more about market offers.
Click on the
button next
to any field for more information about that field.
The information provided by the comparator should be used only
as a guide. When making decisions about an offer, you will need to
consider the terms and conditions of the offer. Particular regard
should be given to factors such as termination fees for your
existing contract and account establishment/connection fees for the
new contract. For further information, click on What
do I do when I find an offer I am interested in?
The annual bill estimate - residential customers
only
The calculator provides an estimate of a residential customer's
annual bill. An annual bill estimate is not calculated for business
customers or for residential electricity customers with a time of
use meter who did not input electricity consumption in kWh in step
2.
The annual bill is an estimate of your gas or
electricity bill for the first 12 months; it is not the actual
amount you will pay in a year as this will depend on your actual
gas or electricity consumption. The estimate is
based on the consumption you entered in Step 2. It includes
retailer discounts and GST. It does not include discounts which
accrue after 12 months, the Low Income Household
Rebate the Medical
Energy Rebate or the Life
Support Rebate. The comparator does not estimate an annual bill
for business customers or residential customers with a time of use
meter who did not input their electricity usage in KWh as these
bills can vary considerably and an annual bill estimate could be
misleading. If you have selected both gas and electricity the
results page will separately identify savings on electricity and
gas.
Both electricity and
gas
If you selected both gas and electricity offers in step 1, there
will be three tabs in your search results.
The 'Combined' tab will list any offers that are for both fuels
(for example sometimes retailers give a discount if a customer
purchases both fuels from them). If there are no combined
offers, there will not be any offers listed on this page.
However there will be single fuel offers which you can access by
clicking on the 'electricity' or 'gas' tabs at the top of the
results page.
Printing your search results
