AGL, ActewAGL, Country Energy and Origin Energy are the
Regulated Suppliers for small retail gas customers in NSW.
Regulated Suppliers
Your Regulated Supplier (or standard supplier) is the company
that has historically supplied electricity or gas in your area and
has the obligation to supply you with electricity or gas at
regulated prices if you do not enter into a market contract.
The Regulated Suppliers (sometimes called Standard Retailers) are
required to supply small customers in their area on regulated
(standard) electricity or gas contracts if those customers have not
taken up a market offer, or choose to return to their Regulated
Supplier on a regulated contract. IPART regulates the price
of gas or electricity under regulated contracts taking into account
the retailer's costs of buying and supplying gas or electricity in
their area.
Until recently there were 3 Regulated Suppliers for electricity
in NSW:
- Integral Energy - which covers the Western
Sydney, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Illawarra and
Shoalhaven regions
- EnergyAustralia - which covers the Sydney,
Central Coast and Hunter regions
- Country Energy - which covers the remainder of
NSW.
The retail parts of these businesses (the parts of the business
that sells electricity to customers) were sold on 1 March
2011. As a result of the sale
- EnergyAustralia retail customers will be transferred to
TRUenergy
- Integral Energy retail customers will be transferred to Origin
Energy
- Country Energy retail customers will be transferred to Origin
